The One Book

The One Book Every Business Owner Should Write… Your Business Plan!

Something recently shared by one of our top coaches globally, is that each business-owner must author at least one book… their own business plan.

Business-Owners are very often encouraged to read several business books, and we are hardly encouraged to author one. [Although in recent times there has been an emergence of authors writing from their business experience.]

In the ActionCOACH community, we are of the view that there are certain things the business-owner must do themselves, for this reason we empower business-owners through coaching to do more in their businesses, leaving less to external consultants or the team to determine/drive, such as our strategic direction.

Naturally, we encourage you to write your own business plan as well.

At first, this may sound like just another task to be added to the high and ever-increasing number of activities you have going on. And the last thing you wish to add is something as dull as writing a strategic plan. But, it can be exciting, if you start with your Vision.

The best books you’ve read are likely those with a strong end, right? So do the same; write down your powerful ending – the vision you have for the business – that will make your book a great one!

With the exciting end decided, it’s time to write the full story. The fact there are so many professionals, experts who do this and books written on it, may make the task appear daunting – either for the required time commitment or your knowledge of business.

However, the person with the best/greatest knowledge on your business is you, and therefore you should write the book. Having established that you are the best person to write it, how should this task be approached…

It’s really quite simple… chapter by chapter.

As you write your book, each chapter can really be exciting. The background in your favourite novel, is built up in the early chapters that help you learn about the setting/environment so you can understand the character and the plot. No story is told without the context of this environment. This becomes your industry, market and SWOT analyses; all critical to lead to that powerful end.

And what about your characters, these are the leadership and management team.
The remaining chapters of your story are built up step-by-step with all the elements of a comprehensive business plan.

And the best part of the book you author is that you get to bring it to life, implementing the strategies and actions you write, rather than that powerful ending being non-fiction!

And your reward?

Maybe not appearing on a best-seller list, but reaping the rewards in the results of the business, and maybe some business awards along the way.

Begin your book!
